Instructor: Cecelia Harris
Class Description: Join the retro 70s/hippie rage by constructing a tiered dress or tunic in your choice of patterns. The tunic length is perfect over leggings or skinny jeans while the dress length pairs with tights and booties. This loose style is the ultimate in comfort while being squarely on trend.
Choose from the following three patterns: 1. The Mira dress by FibreMood is a classic baby doll style with length and ruffle options. It’s a PDF downloadable pattern (www.fibremoodshop.co.uk and #miradress on Instagram). 2. The Indigo tunic from Tilly and the Buttons pattern company has a shaped bodice and skirt options (www.tillyandthebuttons.com and #indigodress on IG). 3. McCalls 7948 is a paper pattern available at JoAnn Fabrics or Hobby Lobby. In addition to a tiered skirt, there is a classic tucked variation.
In this class, we’ll work on getting the perfect fit in the shoulders and bust. You’ll also be learning how to make beautiful gathers for your tiered dress/tunic. In the first two-hour class, we’ll make a quick muslin of the top to get the fit right and discuss what fabrics will work best for your dress. The second class will be for construction (you will cut out your pattern at home after the first class). Finally, you’ll receive a list of other patterns to inspire you to make more!
No garment making experience is required but the student should have experience with a sewing machine.

Instructor Bio: Why I sew: When I think of all the reasons I sew – saving money, getting a good fit, not being limited to what’s in the store, being conscious of how my clothing is produced – the reason above all is that I can be unique. I know that when I choose my own pattern and pair it with a fabric, I will be creating a garment that no one else has. I can also create home goods that are as individual as I am. In a day and age where uniformity is difficult to avoid, creating my own sewn garments is a way to express my voice.
